YARA Privacy Policy

YARA, your personal wardrobe assistant

Draft placeholder. This page is a temporary summary for beta testers. A full privacy policy will be published before public App Store / Play Store launch. You may replace this URL in the app with a Notion or hosted policy link at any time.

1. Who we are

YARA (“we”, “us”) is a personal wardrobe assistant that suggests daily outfits from clothes you add to your digital wardrobe.

2. Information we collect

  • Account: email address and password (stored securely hashed).
  • Profile: name, city/location (for weather), profession, and your weekly dress plan.
  • Wardrobe: photos and tags you upload or import (category, colours, formality, etc.).
  • Usage: outfit suggestions you love or skip, to improve recommendations.

3. How we use your information

  • To generate outfit suggestions from your own wardrobe.
  • To apply weather-aware filtering using your city coordinates.
  • To operate and improve the app.

We do not sell your personal data.

4. Location & weather

YARA uses the city and coordinates you save in your profile (or confirm after device location search) to fetch local weather for outfit suggestions, weekly planning, and insights. We do not send your wardrobe photos to weather providers.

  • Weather data: Our servers request forecast data from Open-Meteo using your latitude and longitude. Responses are cached on our servers for about 30 minutes to reduce repeat requests.
  • City search: When you search for a city manually, we use the Open-Meteo geocoding API.
  • Device location (optional): If you tap “Use my location” on web, your browser may ask for permission. Coordinates are sent to our servers and may be reverse-geocoded via OpenStreetMap Nominatim to suggest a city name. We only save location when you confirm it.

Weather data is provided under the CC BY 4.0 licence. YARA displays weather summaries in the app; see Open-Meteo attribution.

5. Third-party services

We use trusted providers to run YARA. They process data only as needed to deliver the service:

  • Hosting & database: cloud infrastructure and MongoDB (your account, wardrobe, and history).
  • Image storage: Cloudinary (or equivalent CDN) for wardrobe photo delivery in production.
  • AI garment analysis: OpenAI or self-hosted vision models to suggest clothing tags from photos you upload.
  • Weather & geocoding: Open-Meteo and OpenStreetMap Nominatim, as described above.
  • Error monitoring (optional): Sentry, if enabled, for crash and error diagnostics (no wardrobe photos).

Each provider has its own privacy policy. We choose services that do not require selling your data. Links: Open-Meteo terms, OpenStreetMap privacy.

6. Photos & AI analysis

Garment photos may be analysed by AI (locally via Ollama in development, or OpenAI in production) to suggest tags. Images are stored on our servers and, in production, on Cloudinary CDN for delivery.

7. Account deletion

You may request account deletion in the app (Settings → Request account deletion). We review requests manually and contact you before removing your data.

When you delete your account, we remove your personal data and free your photos from our systems. We may retain anonymous, aggregated product statistics by day (for example, how many outfit suggestions were loved or skipped in a given week) that cannot be linked back to you.

8. Data retention

We keep your data while your account is active. After confirmed deletion, wardrobe photos, profile, and identifiable history are permanently removed from our systems.

Anonymous daily aggregates from deleted accounts may remain in our internal analytics so product trend charts stay accurate. These records contain no email, name, photos, or wardrobe item identifiers.

9. Contact

For privacy questions or deletion requests, contact us at the support email listed in the app (Settings) once published, or via your deletion request form in the app. See also our Terms of Service.
